Confucius
Confucius (551–479 BCE) was a Chinese philosopher, teacher, and political figure whose ideas have profoundly influenced Chinese civilization and beyond. Born in the state of Lu during a time of social and political turmoil, Confucius dedicated his life to promoting moral integrity, social harmony, and the importance of education. His teachings, centered around the concepts of ren (benevolence), li (ritual propriety), and xiao (filial piety), emphasized the importance of personal virtue and the role of ethical governance. Although his ideas were not widely accepted during his lifetime, Confucius’ philosophies were later compiled by his disciples into texts such as the Analects, forming the foundation of Confucianism—a key pillar of Chinese thought and culture for over two millennia.
